Sleep Apnea Refurbishment Program

Sleep Apnea is a medical condition that causes a person to stop breathing while they sleep. This can contribute to other health problems like heart arrythmia, stroke, diabetes, depression and more. Sleep Apnea can also be a danger for others, as this condition causes extreme fatigue, which can result in motor vehicle accidents.

Over 45,000 Nova Scotians and Islanders suffer from sleep apnea. Many of these people are unable to afford treatment, which can cost thousands of dollars

LungNSPEI offers the Sleep Apnea Refurbishment Program, which collects gently-used, new models of CPAP and BiPAP machines. With the help of volunteers. Lions Clubs, and the Dalhousie School of Respiratory Therapy, the machines are refurbished and provided to people who cannot afford therapy. *Please see note below about an important program update

**April 2024 - Health Canada has issued a recall on Philips Respironics BiPaps and Humidifiers. For more information:

Do You Need a Machine?

We regret to inform you that as of February 7, 2024, our Sleep Apnea Refurbishment Program is temporarily suspending new applications until further notice (We are still taking machine donations). Despite our unwavering commitment to providing CPAP and BiPAP machines to those in need, our resources have become stretched thin, and our waitlist has grown substantially. The influx of donated machines has significantly decreased in the last three years, exacerbating the wait times for individuals seeking therapy. It is with a heavy heart that we must make this decision to ensure we can adequately serve those currently on our waitlist before accepting new applicants. We understand the importance of timely access to therapy and assure you that this decision is temporary. We remain dedicated to our mission and will resume accepting applications once we can effectively manage the current demand. Please follow us on social media to stay tuned for when we are accepting applications again. We anticipate we will not be able to re-open applications earlier than September, 2024.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this challenging time. *If you have already applied to our Sleep Apnea Refurbishment Program, please be advised we will contact you when a machine becomes available for you
