Radon Detector Library Loan Program

Why loan out radon detectors? By providing this program through the Public Libraries, we are increasing awareness around Nova Scotia and PEI about the dangers of radon gas and the need to test and mitigate. Ultimately, we want all home owners to be aware of radon and understand they should get their homes tested.

Will this provide an accurate reading of radon in my home? The radon detectors being provided for loan are intended for short-term testing and do not replace the long-term tests recommended by Health Canada. Because the loan period needs to be limited, the intent of providing these devices for loan is to simply provide homeowners with an idea of the radon levels in their home.

Does my library have these? You can check availability through your library's website or by calling your local branch.

Will more devices be available? Over 300 devices have been distributed for loan at Public Libraries in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Additional devices have been added since the program's inception. You can still buy a radon detector from LungNSPEI.
